919noise.org is up and running, in at least, a late
beta sense.

Went over to the Nightlight last
night. Saw Raoul Bjorkenheim and Lukas Ligeti, and Jazzkammer.
Bjorkenheim and Ligeti are guitar/drums duet. Kind of
an interesting slightly avant fusion. Aka, the guitar
work was fusiony at times, but often on processed and
prepared guitars. Drum work was similar, sometimes being
fairly straight forward but well executed standard
rock and jazz drumming, and at times, more of an
experimental take, with odd percussion bits thrown in.
The guitarist seem to sport some Belew, Holdsworth, and
Mclaughlin influences at times, in addition to the weirder
noisy improv stuff. Pretty cool.
Jazzkammer were both less traditional (as compared to
mainstream music) and more traditional (as compared to
electronic based free improv). Ie, three guys sitting
at a table making weird noises.
my legs hurt
It’s Thursday afternoon, and my legs are still quite sore from
playing indoor soccer Tuesday night.
Played with the Red Hat league team. Luckily it’s mostly
new soccer players, since I fit squarely in that bracket. I
think the last time I played soccer was in gym class in
middle school.
I haven’t a clue what the rules are. Or any concept of
strategy. But I had fun. But my legs still hurt.
Visited my sister in Virginia over the weekend. Did not do much
of anything aside from eating and playing with my nephew.
Spent a couple hours monday tooling around on a street bike
in the back roads of northern virginia. Having never actually
ridden a street back before, that was pretty fun. I rode
my dad’s bike (a Suzuki Intruder 800 for the curious bike geeks…) while my dad borrowed a
friends Harley SomethingOrAnotherSter (they had ridden in the
Rolling Thunder even sunday).
Riding a street bike isn’t that much different than riding
a dirt bike. Though a few things took getting used to. Engine
braking is _much_ more effective on a 800cc 4 stroke than
on a 125 or 250cc two stroke. As in, downshifting is enough
to chirp the tires. I could be wrong, but it seems like
a 250cc two stroke is quicker than at least that bike. Or maybe
it just feels that way because of the interesting power curve
on a two stroke. A quick search online looks like they are about
the same power ranged (~40hp), so the dirt bikes probably are
quicker.
I would really really like a canned community/cms site written in python
without zope. It’s pretty much php, perl, or zope in that world. A fine
example of the Law of Conservation Of Misery.
So I’m poking at a web site for the 919noise group. At the moment, I’m
using software called phpWebSite. Which is fairly nice. Aside from that
one problem of it being written in php. Everytime I think about editing
the code to tweak the behavior, I track down the appropriate source
file, open it, look at it, and then my eyes glaze over. At some point
later I close the file with as hopefully as little brain damage induced
as possible.

Cool, been browsing this site for months, and just
noticed the guy that runs it is from Cary, NC, just down the road.

Didn’t accomplish much this weekend.
Saturday went over to badgers place for
phasmatodea practice.
Decided I need to mod the ring mod so it has a true bypass
switch (it’s kind of noisy even when disengaged).
Later headed down to Kings for Eric and Robins wedding
reception. Yes, that two wedding receptions at rock clubs
I’ve been to in two weeks. Guess that says something about
my friends.
Sunday got up way to late, thinking everything I had
planned to do was later in the evening. That however
was not the case, so just ended up heading to a book
store and buying some books. One about oppenheimer and
friends, another electronics book, and the third being
a fairly detailed history of the Can-Am racing series
(pretty much a no holds barred road racing series that
ran from late 60’s to early 70’s…)

Does it really surpise anyone that a web page for a company
