more slow progress on the various porting bits. Noticed that one of
the changes I made a month or so ago now makes it even harder
to port. Bleah.

Did a whee bit more work on the Japan Air site. Update the
shows list, and adding some mailing lists under the
email link.

Looking forward to the Fucking Champs show tonight
at Kings. Should be interesting. Anyone else going?

My brain seems to be somewhat scattered today. Not
getting much done unfortunately.

heres what happens when I cant sleep…

thinking I need a haircut, I tried to remember the name of the place
in the mall I usually go. It has one of the “mall” names. I couldnt
remember the name but did end up thinking up way too many
“suggestions” for names of hair cutting places, particular in malls..
No claims of quality here…

I wonder what aklikins thinks a good name is….

seems to be live music week for me…

At johnrays last minute suggestion, I headed down to
Humble Pie to catch the Utah/Adams Castle/Illustravox show.
I thought about not going, but was glade I did. Good show.

I missed Illustravox completely, so cant really comment.
But Adam’s Castle and Utah were both very good.
Adams Castle was a bass/drum/piano trio that sounded
more like old Rush/Fugazi/Don Cab than Ben Folds Five*
Pretty cool. Kind of Mathy, kind of proggy, all instrumental.
Picked up a copy of there cd. Talked to the bass player
for a bit, they seemed pretty cool.

Utah are local, though transplanted from Michigan. A
guitar/cello/drums lineup. Also a bit mathy (need to
come up with a better term…). A bit more subtle
than Adam’s Castle. Several of the songs were
based around clean tapped electric guitar and
cello intertwingled. Picked up their cd as well.

All in all, a good show. Though there was
someone there that I swear looked just like
Josh from “Butt Nekkid & the Flaming Jesi” but
didn’t seem to have the same mannerisms.

* anyone remember the band the bassist for
Ben Folds Five was in before that, Toxic
Popsicle?

grumble.

updated the DNS records for japanairband.com on Thursday
night, and the DNS servers here at work are still showing
the old info. Bleah.

Went to the ENON show Friday at Kings. Not bad, the sound was
pretty fucked, and they were a bit lower energy than I expected,
but not bad.

Went back on Sat to see Renelvis/Baamph/Last of the Juanitas.
Hmmm, math rock! Didnt really want to go by myself, but
what the heck.

The crowd seemed to enjoy Renelvis quite a bit, and him
playing “Hounddog” and “Jailhouse Rock” with Baamph
was an entertaining extra bit.

Baamph was fast, heavy, and weird as usually. Good show.
Last of the Juanitas was pretty good too, though I think
Baamph put on a better show over all.

Seems to be the weekend for bands with female bass
players. ENON/Baamph/Last Of the Juanitas all featured
female bass players.

And for more heavy math rock fun, The Fucking Champs
and Rye Coalition are playing Thursday.

And to top off a show heavy week, probably gonna
try to head to Winston-Salem Friday to see a
local showcase
Featuring Japan Air, Tommy Gun,
and The Finks among others. Three friends bands on the same bill, should be fun.

On the same note, it looks like Japan Air finally have a
Raleigh show, at
Humble Pie on Sat, June 22
. Yay!

And in between shows, wandered around Raleigh attempting
to find thrift stores. A possible new addiction.

Code that mysteriously breaks over night always confuses me. You know
_something_ changed, but it’s not obvious what. Spent the first bit
of the day pondering over why a util started failing differently since about
midnight last night. Oh well, it was broken either way, all fixed now, but…

Probably going to head out to Kings tonight to catch the ENON show.
John Ray recommends them and let be borrow there new cd which
is pretty cool.

Then maybe back again Saturday to catch Renelvis/Baamph/Last
of the Juanitas. But then, Eugene Chadborne is playing ps211 on
saturday, and Last of The Juanitas will be as ps211 on tuesday with
All Astronauts.

In the process of waiting for DNS to propagate so that
www.japanairband.com
shows up at it’s new server.

Oh, and a weird bit I stumbled across while browsing
www.symbols.com
. Check the logo at www.debian.org
and the last paragraph here.

grumble porting grumble

lets see…
python1.5 -> 2.2 (source, nor binary compatible)
httplib (changed drastically)
xmlrpclib( ditto, partly based on the above)

rpm-python (utterly different api)
gnome2/gtk2 (different api)
pygtk/pygnome2 (a different api to get to the different gnome2 api)

the httplib changes broke our changes to add https and proxy
support. The new xmlrpclib then of course, doesnt support
https/proxies, so we get to wrap it to add it again.

Awesome.
