“szkkkkkkkzskkkskskkkkkshhhhshhshhh ka-aaank kuuuunk ka-kaaaaank szshhhhhhhshshhkkkkkk”
– Godflesh, Slavestate

I dont remember song lyrics so well.

Nothing interesting to report. Spent the last two days flooding
the QA guys with bug fixes to verify.

Somewhat relived the world series is over. Can’t say I cared
much who was playing or winning/losing, just seemed like
a giant target.

I had forgotten how freaking long it takes to build GIMP from
source. It is approximately “too long”.

the experiment continues

Todays entries:

Yes, that is a picture of a 1981 AMC Eagle. I couldnt tell that
by looking at it, except the tag says “81 Eagle”. Very handy.
Basically a 4 wheel drive Gremlin.

Okay, I admit it. At one point I owned an AMC Gremlin. If
I ever had any “cool points”, I just lost them. A 232
straight 6 and a three speed non-synchro transmission. Thats
what I learned to drive in.

more random stuff

this might actually be a long entry…

At work, building some packages I promised someone. Could of done
it from home, but I’m generally not very good at or interested in working
from home.

On the way to the office, I stopped by Borders and picked up some
stuff. A sorta new Andy Goldsworthy book (Arch), a book on the history
of the space shuttle ( Space Shuttle: The History of the National Space Transportation System, which caught my eye mainly because of the amout of drawings, plans, and photos
from the development of the shuttle from the late 50’s onwards. ),
and Industrial Design by Raymond Loewry.
I was aware he designed alot, but I hadnt quite realized he designed everything.

Also finally picked up the new Burning
Airlines
cd. I’m a big Jawbox fan, so it was just pure laziness that stopped
me from buying it before. The fact that Burning Airlines is playing
King’s this weekend was good
motivation as well. Anyone else planning on going to this show?

Ponder the idea of doing a “photolog”. I like the concept, and I could use
a good reason to actually use my digital camera. If nothing else, it
got me started fiddling around with usb hotplug stuff on my home machine, and
adding stupid hacks to it. Kind of a geeky thing to do, but it did sort of remind
me that I do in fact enjoy futzing with computers for the heck of it. Something
I hadnt done in a while.

Oooh, and look. New art in the office.

boring weekend. slept alot. Exciting eh?

hmm, a week since last post and nothing interesting
to post. Well, lots of boring work stuff associated
with launch week.

Weird things that have been annoying me recently:

  1. dreams about having all your teeth fall out
  2. artist/musician/writer/etc websites that say things
like “welcome to my home on the internet!” with a bad
photo and a scan of a autograph style signature.
(google on current music for an example…)

  3. any tv shows that originated from england, with a few exceptions.
Especially annoying if they show them on PBS. Does any sane
human actually watch “East Enders” ?

  4. Halloween. Is it over yet?
  5. My X-server deciding it needs to map 550megs of ram
  6. The fact that VH-1 shows more heavy metal
than any other channel. Apparently yesterday was “All Ozzy, All Day Sunday”

3.. 2.. 1…

Woooo. King Crimson playing DC in Dec. With John Paul Jones opening
up. I heart King Crimson.

John Paul Jones should be interesting. Never was really a big Led Zepplin fan,
but John Paul Jones seems to be the only one that still makes interesting music.
And to top it off, on his last tour, he toured with bass player/stick player
Nick Beggs. Better known as “that guy from Kajagoogoo that played the
bass in ‘Too Shy'”
. You can’t argue with creds like that.

7.2 launch day. Every thing seemed to survive, so far. Havent found the
killer really annoying bug yet, but I’m sure ones out there waiting to be found.

Last week pretty much sucked. Unexpected scalibity issues on the servers.
We kissed them and they are all better now.

great timing

more updates to my system tuning info. apache listenBacklog, and various useful urls added.

On a day when we release three very common package updates, we managed
to have a turned-out-to-be-minor-but-looked-grave database issue that was
causing TheReallyBigTable to miss the useful index and hit a useless one instead.
The db whiz kids seem to have found a fix thankfully.

Currently in the process of spamming (er, sending out requested opt-in notifications…)
to about a gazillion people.

I’m in the mood to make hummus again. I don’t know why.

Other than that, a boring day.
