as per the meme… what the heck.

Suggest to me:

1. A movie.
2. A book.
3. A musical artist, song, or album.
4. An LJ user not on my friends list.
5. Something to do in the next two months.

2 1/2 weeks off from work is a great way to forget everything
you were working on. I think I’m mostly back into the swing
of things at this point though.

random thoughts:

I need to figure out what the top of my coatrack is gonna
look like. I have 6 feet of 1inch steel tube, 16 feet of 1 inch
square tubing, about a 2×5 foot plate of 1/4 inch steel, and 12
feet of 1/4inch steel “pencil” rod. Any suggestions?

I often see people refer to going to “club”. What exactly
is that? I was assuming goth night at legends, but aren’t
sure.

my friendster list seems to have exploded over the last
month or so. I guess I know more people than I thought.
Still not sure what exactly it is useful for.

I think I may need to actually install a windows partition
(I think my new computer came with a windows install disk…)
to do any decent dvd authoring stuff. The linux tools really
suck if you don’t like xml editing by hand. Heck, they
probably suck even if you like editing xml by hand.
But ick, I really don’t want to have to install a windows
partion on general warm and fuzzy principle (been close to
10 years now with no windows…). Hard to rationalize
supporting a company that is doing everything possible
legal or otherwise to put my employer out of business.
Having a job is cool and stuff.

I should really start looking for a house or whatever.

I seem to be staring at a large bug in code that was deemed
“perfect” by QA over two months ago. Joy.

I have a mostly irrational fear of xml.

Dude, Lasers! And Monster Trucks!. Monster Trucks with
lasers mounted on them. A cannon that fires monster trucks
at the moon.
(aka, what to do with half a billion dollars…)

I have all the crap I need to start on a 4 x 5 foot
“megadoodle”, but havent yet. I’m lazy.

Spent yesterday mostly catching up on email and whatnot.

Went to trivia, we were down a team member but did
okay. Didn’t win, but we did ace the music round even
sans our music expert.

Stayed later than usual. Ended up talking to some
folks about learning fabrication skills. Seems everyone
(especially software geeks) wants to learn how to
weld/fabricate/etc these days.

Makes me wonder if it would be possible to start up
some sort of coop machine/shop garage. Or just start
one up as a business. The health club/gym business
model would seem to apply well. (aka, get 500 people
to pay $100 a year to use equipment they could never
afford, and then expect 50 people to actually show up…)
You could even have “personal fabricators” to help
with the hard stuff/training/etc.

So, say someone was interested in buying a house. But wanted
to at least explore the option of something slightly out
of the ordinary. Say, loft space, an abandoned factory,
semi commercial space, etc. In the raleigh area…

Where would one find info about this?
